Marion Veitch

Introduction

Marion Veich (née Fairlie), an ardent Presbyterian, left a notable journal, covering events in her life from her marriage in 1664 to her later years. Three manuscripts of this journal have been recorded over the years, of which one (VeM 3), a later copy, can be found. The original manuscript (recorded here as untraced: *VeM 1) is not known to have survived and no other manuscripts by her are currently recorded. For an extensive documented account of her life, family and circle, including manuscripts (chiefly in the National Library of Scotland) by or relating to her husband, William Veitch (1640-1722), a frequently persecuted Presbyterian minister, see Kenneth W. Howard, Marion Veitch (Ossett, West Yorkshire, 1992).
